What to Expect

Thank you for visiting our website and showing interest in this page.family

If you are a present or past worshipper, you will probably know what you are looking for in a church, so why not come and see if we can provide it? At the very least we hope you will find that you feel welcomed, at home, and in God’s presence.

If you are new to faith, or wondering about it, you are likely to have more questions than we can answer here – you’re very welcome to get in touch with us and we will try to try to help you with whatever you want to know.

Everyone has questions before they try something new. We’ve tried to answer some of the common things that people want to know, but if we’ve missed anything, just get in touch and we’ll do our best to answer.

What is a service like?

At the moment, during Covid-19 restrictions we are holding shorter (40 minute) services at our Church building, although numbers are limited.   If you would like to attend on a Sunday morning, please contact our Church Secretary on 01204 880709 or by email at [email protected].

           Sunday Morning Worship at 10am

Our Sunday morning worship is followed by ‘coffee on zoom’ at about 11.30am.  You would be more than welcome to join us:  please email [email protected] for the Zoom link.

During the current restrictions, we are also holding a more informal service on Zoom on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm.   Again, please email us if you would like to join us for that service.

In our Sunday morning service you will find a fairly traditional, informal worship style.   We have a Worship Team made up of five members of our congregation, and each of them has a slightly different style and approach – hopefully you will find the variety of styles and approaches helpful.

At most services, we use a projector and screen for the words and songs, so it is easy to follow.   The screen is also sometimes used to show slides or videos as part of our worship.  There’s no pressure to take part. We’re very happy for you to come along and see what worshipping here is like. If anything seems unfamiliar, feel free to ask someone sitting nearby.

How long are your services?

Our Sunday services usually last around an hour.   Many stay after church for a coffee and a chat – it is a great opportunity to meet people.

During the current restrictions, our services are shorter (about 40 minutes) and we are not serving coffee afterwards – instead, we are joining together for coffee on Zoom at 11.30am

What is the music like?

We have a church organ which we use for most of our services.   We also have some very skilled musicians who often take part in the music too.    We use a selection of modern and traditional songs.

Will I know what to do?

Most people find their first visit to church more informal than they expected. We’re a friendly group of people, and our services are set up so you can relax and get to know us as a church.

What about Communion?

Sharing bread and wine is an important part of our church community. It reminds us of a central part of our Christian message, as followers of Christ.  We currently have Communion once a month. The bread and wine are served to you in your seat.

Everyone is invited to the Lord’s table – no-one is excluded – but if you feel that you would prefer not to take part, please just let the bread and wine pass you when an Elder brings it round during the service.   No one will disapprove!!

What should I wear?

Please dress as you feel comfortable. Our congregation attends dressed in anything from casual to dressed-up. Take your pick!

What happens to my children during the service?

Children are welcomed at services, and there are toys and activities available for their use during the service.   The foyer, at the back of Church, is where parents can retreat with their children, but still see and hear what is happening in the service through speakers and a large window.

All our leaders have been DBS-checked. We have a full safeguarding policy in place, and review this regularly.

Do I have to give money to the collection?

Absolutely not. Please feel free to just pass the basket on if you wish.

Many church members and regular attenders support the work of the church through cash donations, standing orders, or using envelopes that allow us to receive Gift Aid on donations.   You can sign up if you are a tax payer:  our Church Treasurer would be very pleased to give you more information about this.

What about prayer?

Prayer is at the heart of our church life,  and we believe that it can really make a difference in people’s lives. It’s one of the ways we can discover that God loves and cares about everyone and is with us always.

In addition to prayer during worship (spoken or silent) we have a Prayer Book on a table near the back of church where you can write the names of anyone who needs prayer.

What next?

Even if it’s your first visit to church, we hope you have a great experience, and that you’ll find a group of people who are all striving to bring the love and peace of God to our community.    We often use the phrase “friendship, fun and a fair world” as the reason we join together – this is what we wish for, and hope to bring to our local area.

Please remember, if you have any other questions, feel free to get in touch with us, or just ask someone when you arrive. There’s always someone on the door as you arrive, and leave, if you’re not sure who to ask.

Do come and visit. We’ll be so glad to see you..
